Product Description
Avalokiteshvara: The Supreme Bodhisattva of Universal Compassion
This statue depicts the Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara, meticulously crafted by Santa Kumar Shakya, a nationally certified master artisan recognized by the Government of Nepal.
Cast using the ancient lost-wax technique and entirely hand-chiseled, the statue's robe patterns are finely engraved with intricate detail. It has been carefully polished and skillfully oxidized to achieve an antique, timeless appearance. While predominantly made of copper, select parts are accentuated with fire-gilded silver, highlighting specific ornamental details and enhancing the overall visual and symbolic richness of the piece.
The statue features eleven serene faces, ascending in tiers and culminating in the image of Amitabha Buddha at the crown symbolizing the perfection of transcendent wisdom. Radiating in all directions, the countless arms are precisely arranged, each palm bearing a sacred eye that represents all-seeing wisdom and universal awareness. Surrounding the bodhisattva’s divine form are vibrant turquoise inlays, thoughtfully embedded within an intricately crafted silver nimbus, creating a vivid contrast against the warm, oxidized copper tones. The elaborate flame-like backdrop behind the figure is intricately carved。
Among the many arms, various sacred implements are held such as a crystal rosary, nectar vase, lotus flower, and wish-fulfilling jewel each imbued with deep spiritual significance. The bodhisattva stands gracefully atop a fully bloomed lotus pedestal, majestically upheld by two powerful snow lions. These lions, with full, richly textured bodies and meticulous carving, exude a commanding presence.
Dressed in flowing royal garments, the bodhisattva’s robes are adorned with elaborate dragon motifs, auspicious patterns, and sacred Buddhist emblems. The two main hands at the chest are joined in the Anjali Mudra (gesture of reverence), while others hold symbols such as a lotus, prayer beads, and a set of bow and arrow. The base of the statue is embellished with multiple layers of delicate lotus petals. Below them, downward-pointing petal designs and large floral motifs mark each corner, while the lowest level is encircled with cloud patterns, often centering on a Vajra motif.
This statue is not only a fine collectible art piece, but also a ritual instrument to assist practitioners in their advancement.
