This radiant Thangka centers on Vairocana Buddha, the primordial Buddha who embodies the Dharmakaya, or the ultimate truth body of all Buddhas. Seated in serene meditation upon a vibrant lotus throne, Vairocana represents the source from which all enlightened qualities arise, symbolizing the pure, boundless nature of reality itself. His calm white form reflects the unity of all colours and all wisdoms, illuminating the path beyond duality and ignorance.
The central figure displays the Dharmachakra Mudra (gesture of turning the Wheel of Dharma), indicating the continuous teaching of universal truth. His multiple heads, reinforces his role as the cosmic Buddha who pervades all directions and dimensions. His expression is tranquil yet deeply penetrating, inviting the viewer into a state of profound contemplation and inner clarity.
Encircling Vairocana are sacred figures forming a mandalic arrangement of enlightened beings. Above him, seated within the clouds, are Amitabha Buddha (red) and Akshobhya Buddha (blue), two of the Five Dhyani Buddhas representing discriminating wisdom and mirror-like wisdom respectively. Below, flanking the composition, are Vajrasattva, representing the immaculate nature of mind while on the lower right, Padmapani Avalokiteshvara symbolizes the active expression of enlightened awareness. Together, these deities complete a sacred cosmology centered on Vairocana as the axis of enlightenment.
