Product Description

This magnificent Thangka portrays Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the revered "Lotus-Born" master who is often considered the "Second Buddha" across the Himalayas. He is the archetypal tantric master, credited with subduing negative forces and transforming obstacles into spiritual power. In this vibrant depiction, he appears in his powerful yet compassionate form, exuding an aura of fearless wisdom and mastery over the phenomenal world. He is not just a teacher but an active force of protection and spiritual transformation for the practitioner.

Seated in a posture of royal ease upon a multi-coloured lotus throne, Guru Rinpoche is adorned in heavy, richly patterned tantric robes and his characteristic lotus hat. His right hand holds a five-pronged golden vajra at his heart, symbolizing indestructible skillful means. His left-hand rests in his lap, cradling a skull-cup (Kapala) filled with the nectar of immortality and the vase of long life, representing wisdom and longevity. Resting against his left shoulder is the Khatvanga staff, adorned with three severed heads signifying his triumph over the three root poisons of ignorance, attachment, and aversion.

Masterfully crafted using traditional mineral pigments, this artwork possesses a depth that honours ancient Buddhist tradition. The Thangka is brought to life through the lavish and intricate application of precious details like the ornate patterns of his robes, the emanating rays of his aura, and the shimmering surrounding clouds. This luxurious finish creates a radiant "sacred glow" that transforms the painting into a powerful object of devotion and a high-value collector's piece. It is an exquisite blend of profound tantric symbolism and masterful artistic craftsmanship.

Natural Colors in Thangka

All the colors used in the thankgas are made from natural minerals. Ground into pigments, they carry the essence of the earth. Unlike artificial colors, these natural tones shine with honesty, adding depth, life, and spiritual meaning to each canvas.
